Romney and Gingrich play into media’s hands during Republican Debate.

Jacksonville, FL – January 26th, 2012 –  Tonight, ALL the Republican candidates lost the 2nd of Florida’s Republican Debates.

The final tally from the mainstream media will most likely show that Mitt Romney was the clear victor in the battle of words in this 2nd Florida Debate held on the University of North Florida campus.  They will most likely state that Rick Santorum was fiery, passionate and eleqount (they will say so with a measure of surprise).  Finally the mainstream media will say that it was an abysmal night for Newt Gingrich, and they will completely fail to even notice that Ron Paul was on the stage except as comic relief.

What will not be seen is the evil snickers and hand rubbing going on in the production rooms of mainstream media nationwide, as the two top Republican contenders allowed themselves to be lead by the moderator into tearing each other to shreds.  Sadly Newt and Mitt fell for it… hook, line, and sinker.

Liberal bias in the majority of the mainstream media is well documented and has been well-covered in a number of books, such as Bernard Goldberg’s “A Slobbering Love Affair” , Ann Coulter’s “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob is Endangering America“, Michelle Malkin’s “Culture of Corruption“, and Dick Morris’ “Catastrophe“.  (All of these are exceptional books and are true eye openers).  What is not being recognized though, is the more subtle efforts to lead Republicans and Conservatives into destroying each other.

Tonight’s debate was a prime example.  Gingrich and Romney, (both of whom I have profound respect for their experience and success) allowed themselves to fall for a rookie mistake.  They let the moderator, Wolf Blitzer, control the course of the debate, and both Romney and Gingrich allowed their egos to get in the way of the goal for ALL Republicans, a Republican President in the next election.

Instead of  running into the deadfall set up by the media, both Gingrich and Romney had the opportunity to take a higher, nobler road.  Gingrich could have taken that road by apologizing for his immigration attack ad on Romney by saying “You know, that ad was probably not in the best of taste, I apologize, Mitt.” then holding out his hand in friendship.  Romney instead of saying “I doubt that’s my ad” in reference to his ad attacking Gingrich, could have said “You know, I know that things have been getting intense the farther along in this Primary”. Both Romney and Gingrich would have shown themselves to be the bigger man, and it would have been the “Presidential” thing to do.

Sadly, even when Former Senator Rick Santorum pointed out after a Romney vs. Gingrich interchange on  Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac…

“The bigger issue here is, these two gentlemen, who are out distracting from the most important issues we have been playing petty personal politics, can we set aside that Newt was a member of Congress and used the skills that he developed as a member of Congress to go out and advise companies — and that’s not the worst thing in the world — and that Mitt Romney is a wealthy guy because worked hard and he’s going out and working hard? And you guys should that alone and focus on the issues.”

… the friendly fire still continued between Romney and Gingrich – fueled by questions from the moderator, Wolf Blitzer.  Santorum was right on target with his assessment, and it should have set off alarm bells for the other two, but they continued to make thrills go up the collective legs of the Mainstream media.

All the Republican Presidential candidates are experienced leaders, and have had measures of success, but the Mainstream media has a liberal bent.  The Mainstream Media is NOT looking to put up the strongest, best Republican up against Obama.  They want the eventual Republican candidate, whomever that may be, to be a wounded, tired candidate, so that it is less of a fight for Obama.

To all the Republican Presidential candidates: Be “Presidential“!  Let your words and interchanges match the traditional respect of the office you aspire to!  Americans WANT a leader who will be willing to sacrifice his ego to bring the country back on track.  Americans have had enough of the arrogance and eliteism of many politicians and public figures.  Stop falling for the traps and barbs of the Mainstream media!  The four candidates need to get together in a private meeting and be heroic by agreeing to only focus on the issues.

The mainstream media will continue to attempt to play ‘gotcha’ journalism.  They will continue to cackle gleefuly when a Republican trips up, and plot questions to ensnare the candidates and distract from the issues.  The Republican candidates, especially the frontrunners, Romney and Gingrich have to keep their eyes on the goal, rather than on petty squabbles.

In the war of words, Romney won the debate tonight, but in the battle for the votes and hearts of  Republican and Conservative voters nationwide the Mainstream media scored a significant blow.  That blow from the mainstream media does not have to be fatal if the Republican Candidates can focus on the issues, and put ego aside.

Kudos to Rick Santorum for seeing the trap, now it’s up to all of the GOP Primary candidates to avoid that trap.

We’ll all be watching to see what happens!

Gingrich makes his mark on the Republican Primary map – with an exclamation point

It’s a whole new ball game, and Newt Gingrich just impersonated Casey Jones by crushing a home run right over the South Carolina center field wall. The South Carolina Primary is now a matter of history, but it was a victory for Newt Gingrich that will go on far beyond the “Palmetto State”.

A year ago, Michelle Bachmann was the candidate to beat, and there was speculation that Sarah Palin may be getting into the Republican Primary. Six months ago, Herman Cain was viewed as the frontrunning Republican Candidate, and the candidate with the best chance of beating Obama. Five months ago, Rick Perry was the strong candidate that the Republican Party needed. And one month ago Romney had the Republican Primary locked up… no one else had a chance. Apparently, someone forgot to give Newt the memo that he wasn’t going to be in the race…

At the South Carolina Debate, Former Speaker Gingrich was pitched a spitball of a question by CNN’s John King, and if you didn’t get a chance to see it before, you should definitely take a look at it now:

Thanks to MoxNews.com for posting this video on YouTube

Regardless of your personal feelings towards Gingrich’s divorces, his criticism of the question was understandable. The fiery response he gave was well received by the audience, and showed a fighting spirit that many voters nationwide say they have been looking for in the Republican candidates. It should also be noted that the wife of moderator and CNN personality John King, is Dana Bash, the reporter who seemingly expressed bias in a statement about the Ron Paul campaign:

I’m hearing from Republicans, John, who are affiliated with other campaigns that they are amazed at how wonderful, frankly, that they say the Ron Paul organization is, we’ll see if that actually bears out tomorrow – but in terms of the long term, there’s no question- I’m sure that you talk to Republicans, who are worried as well, just like I am, that Ron Paul will continue on long into the spring and summer and even further even if he runs as a Republican or as an Independent he could really hurt whomever the Republican nominee is because still, nobody thinks even if he does well here in New Hampshire that he will ultimately be the nominee…

In the days after the debate, Gingrich vigorously stumped through South Carolina, talking with voters, encouraging people to come out, and even meeting them at the drive thru window of a Chic-fil-a restaurant.
(It should be noted that Chic-fil-a is also one of our staff’s favorite places to eat, and is a tremendous place to take the ones you love!  The Political Watchman staff will not endorse a Republican candidate for President, but we FULLY endorse Chic-fil-a restaurants!)

On Primary Day, South Carolina voters expressed their support for Gingrich at the ballot box, and demonstrated how strong of a candidate they believe he is. Gingrich amassed 40.4% of the vote, racking up a double digit victory over Former Governor Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Ron Paul.

All the candidates showed class and style by congratulating each other in their closing speeches, but Gingrich went the extra mile by outlining some of his plans, and voicing significant criticism of Obama’s failed policies and negotiations. See for yourself:

The battle for the Republican Nomination is still in it’s early innings, and Romney, Santorum and Paul are still in the game, but the home run that Gingrich hit on January 21st could turn the Republican Primary into a shutout.

Keep Watch!

The New Hampshire Primary Results

The New Hampshire Primary featured six Republican Presidential Candidates, as Michelle Bachmann had withdrawn from the Republican Primary after the Iowa Caucus. The results of the vote were significant win for Former Governor Mitt Romney, and a significant showing for Ron Paul. John Huntsmann arrived in 3rd place with a surprisingly unexpected showing. Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum tied for the fourth place spot. Rick Perry had a negligible response, and though the Perry campaign had shown early strength, after the results were released Perry’s campaign gave indications that they were preparing to suspend efforts.

Ron Paul: “Anti-American”?

Part 2 of the article “Can we finally tag Ron Paul correctly, Please? “

In the first part of this two part article, we discussed that Ron Paul is being tagged with a great many labels, yet those labels are largely based on the facination with the mainstream media and politicos with political correctness. In this second part of the article, we will cover some of the remaining labels and explore why there is such a rush to discount and dismiss Ron Paul as a serious contender for the Republican Nomination and for the Presidency.

We held publication of this second part to determine if any new labels were going to be applied during the New Hampshire Primary. Although no new labels were applied, Ron Paul was second in the NH Primary results. For whatever reason, and despite it’s growing strength his candidacy continues to be marginalized by the mainstream medias and politicos nationwide, most frequently because of the labels that have been applied to him. We discussed some of those labels in part one of this article, which can be read here: PART 1

“Anti-Elderly”?

Ron Paul has been tagged as “Anti-Elderly” because of his belief that Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are unconstitutional, that America should be transitioned off of these bankrupt programs. The label has been propogated by his critics using scare tactics claiming that he would end these programs and turn it all over to the states. While it is true that in 1937 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Social Security was permissible under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, the constitutionality of Medicare and Medicaid has never been decided by the Supreme Court. Medicare and Medicaid were added to the Social Security Act through the Social Security Amendments of 1965 signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Ron Paul has consistently stated that Medicare and Medicaid are unconstitutional, and that postulation has never been disproven.

The solution proposed by Ron Paul is that American citizens would be given the opportunity to opt out of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in favor of private tax exempt savings accounts. The various programs would be gradually phased out to prevent a negative impact on those currently or soon to be receiving benefits. Far from being “Anti-Elderly”, this proposed changes would not only provide greater security to American citizens as they retire, but would also serve to stimulate the economy directly by keeping capital flowing in the free-market, instead of funding irresponsible spending by the Federal Government. These proposed changes would also allow citizens to establish these tax-exempt savings where they live, further stimulating local economies nationwide. Interestingly, Ron Paul is not the only conservative politician to state the dangers of Medicare and Medicaid. In his nearly prophetic recording of 1961 regarding an early version of Medicare, Ronald Reagan described the future effects of such a program if it was not stood against:

“…we will awake to find that we have socialism. And if you don’t (stand against the proposed legislation) do this, and if I don’t do it, one of these days, you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children’s children, what it once was like in America when men were free.”  Ronald Reagan – American Medical Association Recording – 1961

“Isolationist”, and “Anti-Military”?

These labels have been applied to Ron Paul almost interchangeably by commentators and writers criticizing his stance that the United States should withdraw from entrenched positions in other countries, and should cease foreign aid, both financially and militarily (unless a formal declaration of war has been made or when military action is necessary for national defense). In direct contrast to the label of “Isolationist” it should be noted that Ron Paul supports international trade, travel, migration, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. The label of “Anti-Military” has been applied to Dr. Paul for his stance that the United States military should not be involved in a conflict unless this country’s national security is put in jeopardy, or a declaration of war has been issued. He has firmly indicated that the military of the United States should use advancing technology and innovations in unmanned vehicles to keep American soldiers out of harm’s way. Although his stance on the reduction of the military has drawn much criticism, Ron Paul continues to be the Republican candidate with the highest amount of contributions from military personnel. His sentiments are shared by one of the Founding Fathers and Presidents of our country, Thomas Jefferson, who stated:

“The spirit of this country is totally adverse to a large military force.” – Thomas Jefferson

Rather than labels such as “Anti-Military” and “Isolationist”, a more appropriate definition of his platform would seem to be that of anti-interventionist. An excellent quote regarding the label of “Isolationist” was recently stated by writer Jacob Sullum:

“This is like calling him (Ron Paul) a recluse because he tries to avoid fistfights.”

“Anti-American”?

This label has been applied to Ron Paul, but is a little bit harder to nail down. Many commentators have tagged him with the “Anti-American” label, but haven’t really given evidence or proof. Most of the reasons for this label seem to be based on strangely enough, other labels. As an example – Ron Paul is ‘Anti-Military and Anti-American’ or ‘Anti-Semite and Anti-American’. That makes this label the most confusing of all. To date, Ron Paul has made it clear that he would repeal the Patriot Act, on the grounds that it is intrusive into the personal freedoms of American citizens. He has firmly stated his determination to protect the Constitution of the United States, and the rights and freedoms that it guarantees, while simultaneously noting that those rights and freedoms require personal responsibility. His position on focusing on the United States and working to get the American economy stable by eliminating foreign financial aid, follows his position that since the United States should not be policeing the world, we should also not be financing the world – especially when we are borrowing money to do it. The “Anti-American” label seems to be largely used for inflammatory purposes.

While Ron Paul may not be the candidate that wins the Republican Nomination, many portions of his platform resonate with the majority of Republicans and Independents. As was said by Ronald Reagan:

“The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally…” –Ronald Reagan

It may be that Ron Paul is the candidate who keeps the Republican Party’s feet to the fire, and finger on the pulse of the majority of Americans.  Keep Watch!

The Iowa Caucus Results

The Iowa Caucus was the first indicator on the Republican Primary Race. The chart below gives the final vote percentages. Initially, it appeared that Former Governor Mitt Romney had secured victory, but after a recount, Former Senator Rick Santorum was determined to be the winner. After a 6th place result, Rep. Michelle Bachmnann withdrew from the Republican Primary Race.

Can we finally tag Ron Paul correctly, Please? Part 1

With each new stage of the campaign to the Republican nomination, Ron Paul has been tagged with a new label (sometimes multiple labels at the same time) Let’s take a look at some of the labels so far – Racist, Anti-Semite, Anti- Gay, Anti- American, Anti-Elderly, Anti-Environment, Isolationist, Anti-Military, “Fringe Candidate”, “CRAZY” – Yet he continues to gain strength and support.  Why?  The answer is very simple… they have yet to tag him with the correct label – which is that he is just “RIGHT”!

If you have not been paying attention to the race, or have just been looking at the faces, right now you are probably getting ready to stop reading, right?  I can relate, because a couple of months ago, I was in that same place.  Ron Paul is a long shot – not even a credible candidate, right?  Sure… until you listen to what he is saying.

The Wrong Labels

The majority of the labels Ron Paul has been tagged with have everything to with his stance that freedom demands responsibility, both personally and governmentally.  These labels also have to do with his unshakable belief in the rights of an individual to make decisions for themself.

His views, beliefs and platform are shared by some of the most well-respected leaders and thinkers in history, and have been thoughts and ideas that have guided the majority of Americans for the past 200 years.  They are constitutional ideals, but have been twisted by the “mainstream” media and “establishment” of both parties.

Social Labels

Racist?

Ron Paul has been labeled a “Racist” for his stance to repeal affirmative action, believing that all people, regardless of color should take responsibility for themselves and stand on their own efforts and hard work.  There was another great thinker of the 20th century who believed this same thing – Martin Luther King – whose famous quote stated his dream that one day the United States would be a place where his children would be:

“…judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character”Martin Luther King – August 28, 1963

The stance that Ron Paul has taken holds true that quote by the Reverend Martin Luther King.  Citizens should be judged on their actions and efforts, not pandered to or coddled due to the color of their skin.

Anti-Semite?

He has been labeled as an “Anti-Semite” for his belief that the United States should end foreign aid to countries, including Israel.  Israel and these other countries have there own governments, economies, and military, and are capable of making decisions for themselves.  Moreover, these countries would benefit economically from the United States focusing on healing and strengthening our own economy.   Though we will always keep our unique and special relationship with Israel, Ron Paul’s stance would allow Israel and other countries to take responsibility for themselves, rather than being ’micro-managed’ by the United States.   One of the greatest Israeli leaders in history, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated the same thing directly to the United States Congress

“You don’t need to do nation building in Israel, we’re already built -You don’t need to export democracy to Israel, we’ve already got it -and you don’t need to send American troops to Israel… WE DEFEND OURSELVES! ”Benjamin Netanyahu- May 24, 2011

Anti-Gay?

He has been labeled as “Anti-Gay” for both his support of the Protection of Marriage Act and for his belief that states should be able to determine for themselves and their own sovereignty whether marriage between same-sex couples is permissible.  His support of the Protection of Marriage Act is a direct expression of his personal beliefs – beliefs that the majorities of the people in his district are well aware of and continue to elect him on.  His vote is in keeping with his responsibility to his constituents. Moreover, his position that the individual states should be able to decide on their own regarding same-sex marriage is in the highest standards of his oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States as stated by the 10th Amendment that -

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”  – 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

Anti-Environment?

Ron Paul has been labeled “Anti-Environment” since he would eliminate the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, allow for the expansion of offshore drilling while eliminating federal subsidizing of that drilling, allow for mining on federal lands, and has expressed doubts and concerns regarding the assumption of man-made global warming. Ron Paul has always been an unshakable proponent of state’s rights, and his stance would allow states to create their own environmental monitoring and protecting agencies – a much more effective way to quickly assess and address environmental concerns in a specific area.  By eliminating federal subsidies going towards offshore drilling companies, and removing the regulations and bureaucracy of that drilling, Ron Paul would encourage drilling companies to lower the cost of the oil, and reinvest in their own companies to innovate safer and more effective ways to drill.  By allowing the mining of federal lands, the United States would decrease its dependency on foreign energy sources, while helping to strengthen our own economy.  There is still much controversy surrounding man-made climate change, and Ron Paul’s stance is a scientific one – skepticism until proven.  He is not alone in that sentiment as demonstrated by the signers of the Oregon Petition

There is no convincing evidence that human release of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases is causing, or will cause in the future, catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere or disruption of the Earth’s climate.”Oregon Petition, from the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine, signed by over 17,000 international scientists including more than 2000 of the world’s leading climatologists, meteorologists and planetary/atmospheric scientists

I realize that if you have read thus far you are at least somewhat interested in this article.  Part 2 of this article will be posted within the next 2 days.  Quite frankly, there may end up being a ‘Part 3′ for this article if Ron Paul continues to be tagged with new labels… Keep Watch and check back for Part 2, or sign up for the Political Watchman below to get an email when we post new articles!
